My business would like to donate to the ballroom program. How do I do that?
We really appreciate donations to our program! They help with the many costs each year. We accept business and personal donations through the Alpine Foundation. Please make your check out at the office and specify that it is for the ballroom program. As a "thank you" you will receive a tax write off and we will print your business name on this website and in our concert program at the end of the year!
What is the cost of ballroom?
4th graders are $70 for the year (Sept-March) and 5th and 6th graders are $140. This includes classes, parties, costume rentals, t-shirt, competitions, and performances, and teachers. There are small fees for competitions the Ballroom funds may or may not be able to cover. Typically the first competition is covered for those students competing.
Where and when can I pay tuition?
Please pay at the office and make checks out to Grovecrest Ballroom. Tuition is due the end of September.
Are there any other costs?
The tuition covers costume rental and all other fees for your student. If your child participates in team match then they will be required to wear particular clothes in order to participate. Those are hopefully things you will find in your child's closet. If you don't have those items then we encourage you to borrow from a neighbor or from the school rather than going out and buying them, unless you want to.
Do I get to keep my child's costume?
No.
Do I need to purchase ballroom shoes?
No. If you are interested in purchasing shoes you may. Please check with your child's teacher before purchasing any shoes to be sure you are getting the right shoes.
Can my child participate in ballroom for only half the year?
No. Your child must commit to the full year because we depend on equal ratios of boys to girls the whole year.
Can I register my child for ballroom in the middle of the school year?
No. We keep registration open until the first of October. After that it is closed simply because it will be too difficult at that point to catch your child up to the rest of the class. We will have learned almost half of our material by then.
Will my child be stuck with only one partner?
No. We rotate partners frequently in class.
What is the waiting list for girls like?
We can only allow a few girls over the number of boys who sign up for a class. If there isn't a spot for your daughter then she will be placed on a waiting list. We will contact you when there are enough boys for her to be in the class. If you find a boy on your own, who is willing to commit to the full year and is in your daughter's same grade, then we can put her straight into the class without waiting. We feel that if you do the work in finding a boy, then you should get the reward.
Can kids from other schools participate in Grovecrest Ballroom?
Yes, provided we haven't filled the classes first with all Grovecrest students who wish to participate. This means that we allow boys from other schools (and home schools) until all the waiting list girls have been put in the class, then we can allow girls from other schools. If your girl is on the waiting list and finds a boy from another school then we can let them in the program provided it works with his school's schedule, he is in the same grade and the boy commits to the full year.
Does my child have to try out to participate?
No
Can I drop off siblings and have them just sit quietly in the classroom while my ballroom student participates in class? It is so much easier to just take all my kids to school at once or to just pick all my kids up at the same time.
No. Siblings are a distraction even if they are sitting quietly.
My child really enjoyed ballroom and wants to continue after elementary school. What is available to them?
The junior high has a non-competitive ballroom program as part of their in-school classes. There are also many studios around who have ballroom programs both competitive and non-competitive. Please contact your child's ballroom teacher for more information about try-outs for these programs.
My child has done ballroom in the past and is a competitor, why can't they participate in team match?
The team match events are for students who are doing ballroom for the first time, in the elementary program. It is assumed that those who have had previous ballroom experience and who currently compete are at a higher level and would give their particular school an unfair advantage during team match. Your child may still participate in the school program and in the performances but can not participate in the team matches.
My child wants to do ballroom but doesn't want to compete.
That is just fine. Please let us know during registration so we can make a note of that.
My child has special needs. Will you adapt your program to them?
Absolutely! Please let us know during registration of what your child's particular needs are and we can brainstorm to make it a positive experience for them!
I have younger students who are looking forward to ballroom. When can we register?
We open registration (for the next school year) up for current ballroom students and their younger siblings, in April. We then open registration up for the whole school in May. We also register students throughout the summer and during the first two weeks of school.
How do I register for ballroom?
Please contact the office or email [email protected]
We tried to register my student for ballroom on the first day of open registration and my daughter was put on the waiting list. Why?
Once you have a family member in ballroom then you get the priority. So current ballroom students and their siblings have had a chance to register for ballroom already. We do all we can to get all girls, who are on the waiting list, into the program... it just takes some patience.
Why is ballroom so expensive compared to the other after school classes?
Elementary Ballroom is not a part of the PTA. We are sanctioned under DANZINSKULE which is a non-profit organization. Dazinskule is supported through the district and the cost of the program is set through them. Cost is what it is because we have to pay for our students to participate in the team match events each year, for building rental, teachers, and costumes.
I know how to sew. Can I help with costumes?
YES! Please contact your child's teacher to find out what sewing needs there are.
Can I watch my child dance during class?
Absolutely! Any parent support is definitely encouraged!
